The PH-149359K Proheat Flexible Exhaust Pipe is a 2-foot flexible exhaust section designed for Proheat X30 auxiliary coolant heaters. Installed at the heater’s exhaust system, the pipe provides the connection used to route hot combustion gases safely away from the heater and vehicle.

During operation, the X30 burns diesel fuel to heat engine coolant or other connected heating circuits. Once combustion takes place, the resulting exhaust gases must leave the heater through a properly routed exhaust system. The 149359K flexible pipe provides the primary 1.5-inch exhaust connection used in standard X30 installations. Proheat includes this part in its X30 installation kits rather than treating it only as an optional service component.

Proheat specifies the 149359K as a 1.5-inch-diameter flexible exhaust pipe measuring 2 feet long. The replacement assembly is supplied with the corresponding exhaust clamp, identified in the X30 parts catalog as 149366K, a 1.65-inch exhaust clamp.

The flexible construction is particularly useful at the heater connection because an auxiliary heater installed on a truck, bus, or piece of equipment is continuously exposed to vibration, chassis movement, temperature changes, and normal installation tolerances. A flexible exhaust section allows the exhaust routing to accommodate those conditions more effectively than an entirely rigid connection.

The flexibility also makes the pipe easier to route when the heater and final exhaust outlet are not perfectly aligned. However, the pipe is still part of a hot combustion-exhaust system and should be routed and supported according to Proheat installation requirements. It should not be sharply crushed, kinked, or positioned where hot exhaust components can damage hoses, wiring, vehicle structure, or other heat-sensitive parts.

One especially useful feature of the 149359K is its compatibility across the two major X30 fuel-system generations. Proheat’s catalog for the earlier dual-fuel-line X30 lists the same 149359K flexible exhaust pipe used in installation kit PK3003. The current single-fuel-line X30 catalog also lists 149359K in the standard installation kit PK3014, as well as the X30 school-bus installation kit PK3018.

Because the X30’s fuel-delivery system changed between these generations but the exhaust part did not, customers do not need to select a different 2-foot flexible exhaust section solely because they have an early or later X30.

The PH-149359K is appropriate for replacement when an existing flexible exhaust section has become corroded, damaged, crushed, cracked, or otherwise unsuitable for continued service. It can also be used when restoring an X30 installation that is missing the original exhaust section.

How the X30 Exhaust System Works

The Proheat X30 is a diesel-fired coolant heater. During the combustion process, fuel and combustion air are burned inside the heater to generate thermal energy.

Heat from that combustion is transferred into the coolant circulating through the heater. The remaining combustion gases must then leave the unit through the exhaust outlet.

The 149359K flexible exhaust pipe carries those gases away from the heater and into the remainder of the exhaust routing.

A sound exhaust system is important for two reasons:

• It allows combustion gases to leave the heater without excessive restriction.
• It keeps hot exhaust and carbon-monoxide-containing gases directed away from occupied spaces and other vehicle systems.

Proheat specifically warns that exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide and that combustible materials should not be placed around the heater or exhaust pipe.

Single- and Dual-Fuel-Line X30 Compatibility

Unlike several X30 fuel-system parts, 149359K did not change when Proheat revised the X30 fuel system.

Proheat lists the 149359K flexible exhaust pipe in the installation-kit documentation for both generations.

This makes the serial-number break less critical for this specific component than it is for pumps, fuel lines, pickups, and other X30 fuel-system parts.

When to Replace the Flexible Exhaust Pipe

Replacement may be appropriate if the existing exhaust section has:
