The Thermex HP-2018-ORB HeatProbe 2000 Series is a coolant-powered immersion heat exchanger designed to warm fluids directly inside a tank. Rather than using an electric heating element, the HeatProbe transfers heat from circulating coolant through its finned heat exchanger assembly to the fluid surrounding the probe.
The HP-2018-ORB features an 18-inch immersion/insert length and a JIC No. 32, 2-1/2″-12 straight-thread O-ring boss connection with jam nut. The ORB configuration provides an alternative to the 2-inch NPT mounting arrangement used on standard NPT-style 2000 Series HeatProbe models.
For oil and fuel applications at -30°C (-22°F), the HP-2018-ORB is rated at 2.3 kW / 7,700 BTU. The specified typical tank-size range for this model is 30-60 US gallons (113-227 liters).
The exchanger uses an SA-214, 14-gauge carbon-steel tube with radial 0.016-inch L-foot aluminum fins spaced at 10 fins per inch. The manifold is machined from 304 stainless steel, and the threaded end cap is also 304 stainless steel.
Coolant connections consist of two 1/2-inch NPTF inline ports and two 3/8-inch NPTF ports positioned 90 degrees from the manifold. Unused end ports can be closed using 3/8-inch NPTM brass plugs.
The HeatProbe is rated for an internal pressure of 1,100 kPa / 160 PSI and an external pressure of 380 kPa / 55 PSI, with a maximum working temperature of 200°C / 392°F.

Installation / Connection Information
The HP-2018-ORB uses a JIC No. 32 (2.5″-12) straight-thread O-ring boss mounting connection with jam nut.
Compatible installation arrangements may include JIC No. 32 half-couplings in weld-on or bulkhead configurations. A weldless stainless-steel tank flange is also available within the HeatProbe product system for retrofit applications.
