PH-992050K – Proheat 992050K 23-Pin PCM with Internal Harness

The PH-992050K Proheat 23-Pin PCM with Internal Harness is an electronic control module replacement and upgrade assembly for compatible Proheat coolant heater systems. The Proheat Control Module, or PCM, serves as the electronic control center of the heater. It monitors heater operation, checks system inputs, controls the operating sequence, and provides diagnostic information when a fault is detected.

During normal heater operation, the PCM performs a system check before ignition and coordinates components such as the blower, coolant pump, ignition system, air compressor, and fuel system. It also monitors operating conditions and sensor inputs so the heater can safely progress through ignition, heating, standby, and cool-down cycles.

The 992050K was introduced as part of Proheat’s updated 23-pin X45 Plus PCM architecture. The newer design replaces the previous 18-pin bolt-secured PCM connection with a 23-pin clip-secured connector. Because the connector design changed, converting an older 18-pin heater requires a matching internal harness. Proheat packages that internal harness with the PCM under part number 992050K.

This assembly can be used to update several generations of older Proheat heater electronics. Documented applications include XL900, XL1500, X45 G-I, X45 G-II, X45 G-III, and applicable X45 Plus G-IV systems. However, the additional components required for installation depend on the generation of heater being serviced.

For older XL900, XL1500, X45 G-I, G-II, and G-III systems, Proheat specifies the 992050K together with a 305542K round-to-square harness adapter kit and 978888K ground-side fuse kit. These additional components allow the newer PCM and harness arrangement to interface with the earlier heater wiring.

For X45 Plus G-IV heaters equipped with the older 18-pin connector, Proheat identifies the 992050K as the replacement for previous 997000K and 997050K controller configurations. The included internal harness converts the heater to the newer 23-pin connection.

The PCM platform also incorporates the updated X45 Plus control architecture designed for both 12- and 24-volt heater applications. X45 Plus PCM systems support features including heater diagnostics, auxiliary inputs, sleeper-fan outputs, Data Link communication, and J1939 CAN bus communication.

Because Proheat produced several PCM generations and OEM-specific configurations, identifying the existing controller before ordering is important. MCI and certain transit-bus applications use different replacement kits and should not automatically be converted using the standard 992050K assembly.

Important Application Note

PH-992050K is not a universal replacement for every Proheat X45 or X45 Plus PCM.

Proheat specifies separate replacement assemblies for several OEM-specific applications, including certain MCI, Gillig, NABI/NJT, and Eldorado heater configurations. In addition, an X45 Plus heater already equipped with the latest 23-pin architecture may use 992000K PCM-only rather than the 992050K PCM-and-harness assembly.

Always verify the existing PCM part number, connector style, heater generation, voltage/application, and OEM configuration before ordering.
