PH-305542K – Proheat 305542K X45 Upgrade Harness Adapter Kit

The PH-305542K Proheat Upgrade Harness Adapter Kit provides the electrical adapters required when updating compatible older Proheat coolant heaters to the newer X45 Plus control-system configuration.

Earlier Proheat XL900, XL1500, and X45 heater generations used round-style external harness connections at the Proheat Control Module. Later X45 Plus control systems use square-style harness sockets. Because the original vehicle wiring does not directly connect to the newer configuration, the 305542K adapter kit bridges the electrical connections between the existing vehicle harnesses and the updated heater control system.

The kit contains four individual adapter harnesses covering the primary external electrical connections used by the heater: switch/control, power, sleeper fan, and auxiliary input. Together, these adapters allow much of the existing vehicle-side wiring to remain in place while converting its connections to the newer control-system arrangement. Proheat identifies the 305542K as its round-to-square harness adapter kit.

This kit is particularly important when upgrading earlier XL900, XL1500, X45 G-I, X45 G-II, or X45 G-III heaters to Proheat’s current 23-pin X45 Plus PCM architecture. The new X45 Plus PCM uses a 23-pin clip-secured internal connector, replacing the older 18-pin bolt-secured PCM design. When an older heater with round-style external harness sockets is updated to this system, the PCM and internal harness alone are not enough—the external vehicle harness connections must also be adapted.

For these older heater generations, Proheat’s current upgrade instructions specify three primary service components:

• 992050K – 23-pin PCM with internal harness
• 305542K – Round-to-square harness adapter kit
• 978888K – Ground-side fuse kit

Together, these components provide the control module, internal wiring, external harness adaptation, and updated fuse arrangement required to bring applicable earlier heater configurations forward to the newer X45 Plus control architecture.

The 305542K is not itself a PCM or complete PCM upgrade kit. It contains the external wiring adapters used as part of the conversion. This distinction is important when servicing an older heater because ordering the adapter kit alone does not provide the new control module, internal PCM harness, or ground-side fuse components.

The adapter kit can also be useful when an existing conversion has damaged wiring or connectors and the adapter portion of the installation needs replacement. Electrical harnesses in heavy-duty equipment are exposed to vibration, heat, moisture, road contaminants, and repeated service work. Damaged terminals, corrosion, broken conductors, or altered wiring can interfere with heater power, switch control, auxiliary functions, or sleeper-heat operation.

Because several generations of X45 electronics exist, identifying the original heater and PCM configuration before ordering is especially important. The 305542K is intended for older heaters equipped with round-style external harness sockets. Later X45 Plus heaters already use square-style harness connections and therefore do not normally require this round-to-square adapter kit as part of a PCM replacement. Proheat’s current bulletin, for example, specifies the 992050K PCM/internal-harness assembly alone when replacing applicable X45 Plus G-IV 18-pin controllers with square-style external sockets.

Important Application Note

The PH-305542K should not be treated as a universal X45 Plus wiring kit.

It is specifically associated with older heater installations that have round-style external harness sockets and are being adapted to the newer square-style X45 Plus connections.

An X45 Plus G-IV heater with an 18-pin PCM but square-style external harness sockets does not use the same upgrade combination. Proheat’s current replacement guide specifies the 992050K 23-pin PCM with internal harness for those applicable G-IV configurations without listing the 305542K adapter kit.

Likewise, Proheat lists separate PCM and harness solutions for several MCI, Gillig, NABI/NJT, and Eldorado transit or motor-coach applications. Verify the heater generation, existing PCM number, connector style, and OEM application before ordering.
